On 20th September 2006 H.E. Alex Himelfarb was appointed the new Canadian Ambassador for Italy replacing Mr. Robert Fowler.

The Ambassador, accompanied by Mrs. Himelfarb and Deputy High Commissioner Jean-Michel Roy, visited Malta on 18th October 2006 and on the morrow presented the Letters of Credence and Recall to the President of the Republic of Malta, H.E. Dr. E. Fenech Adami.

Shortly afterwards H.E. Alex Himelfarb paid a visit to the Canadian Consulate at Demajo House in Valletta, accompanied by Mr. J.M. Demajo, Hon. Consul for Canada and took the opportunity to discuss general consular matters pertaining to Canadian citizens on the Island.

His Excellency had a very busy schedule during his 4-day stay in Malta which included a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Michael Frendo and other senior Ministry officials. Courtesy visits were extended to the Ambassadors of France, the United States, Australia, Britain and Italy.

Mr. J. M. Demajo hosted the Ambassador and Mrs. Himelfarb to a dinner at the Hon. Consul�s residence in Sliema and organised a private visit to Palazzo Falson in Mdina.
