As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities, the M. Demajo Group recently organized a clean up campaign in conjunction with BirdLife Malta at Rdum il-Madonna, in Mellieha, to help increase the population of the Yelkouan shearwater in Malta. The Yelkouan shearwater is a seabird that breeds in colonies in the Mediterranean. Ten percent of the world population of this bird breeds in the Maltese Islands and a third of these are found at Rdum il-Madonna, a cliff face in the north of Malta. In recent years, the important Maltese colonies have been decreasing in both number and area with several colonies being deserted in recent years for many reasons, mainly because of man-made threats such as rubbish left by picnickers which is attracting rats which then attack and eat the shearwater chicks. Employees of the M. Demajo Group participated in this clean up campaign, following which they were treated to lunch nearby. The M. Demajo Group corporate social responsibility policy seeks to involve its employees and management in activities that aim to improve the quality of life of those around us, whilst providing the opportunity for the organization to give a little something back to society.
