Joseph Cachia & Son Ltd has been featured in the Italian newspaper “L’Eco di Bergamo” in conjunction with the Biological Survey at Ħal-Saflieni Hypogeum currently being undertaken by Ecogeo S.r.l. of Bergamo, Italy. Joseph Cachia & Son Ltd, a subsidiary of the M. Demajo Group and as local representatives for Ecogeo S.r.l, are assisting them in carrying out this project.
The research project is aimed at identifying all biological communities to be found inside the Hypogeum and assessing any damage or beneficial effects of these organisms on the work surfaces, as well as mapping them within a 3D model of the Hypogeum. It also includes predicting analysis of the possible changes that may result from variations in visitor numbers and environmental conditions.
The project will run for nine months in order to evaluate the biological committees in the various seasons. The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2016.
