Manufacturing
When Malta became independent in 1964, its main task was to build up an economy based on manufacturing, tourism and services to replace the previous dependency on employment and revenue resulting from the British Military bases on the island. Manufacturing required the biggest investment. At the time, Malta lacked the developed industrial hinterland to adequately support this investment.

The M. Demajo Group decided to go into manufacturing by supplying packaging to the nascent local industry.
